The meaning of Christmas came to me back when I was a single mom of my 2 boys and they were young. I explained to them that this is the day Jesus is born and that if Santa couldn't make it, it was because there were other children who needed toys more than they did. That was the year MOM had no money and no resources to really get them any toys. I did want something under the little 3 foot tree that was given us so I had put some toys away a few weeks before and wrapped them up just in case I couldn't borrow any money. That night after they were in bed there was a knock at my door. 3 people were at my door with food and presents. We had a whole christmas dinner and presents galore. There were even things in there that were for "mom". I asked these people where it came from and all they told me was "Santa". That was a eye opener for me and now that I'm a little better off I try and surprise someone every year with a little something I leave at their doorstep.
