My favorite holiday tradition is putting a tree up in every room of the house. Mind you some rooms have a mini tree but every room has a tree. It just puts a little Christmas in every room. And now that I have kids they get so excited to see a little tree in the bathroom or the kitchen. I also did a quick blurb about your giveaway with a linkback on my blog.
We started this several years ago when a family from my son’s preschool shared it with us. My favorite Christmas tradition is to wrap 1 Christmas Story for each day in Advent. Each day of Advent, one of my kids selects a book and another unwraps it. We read the story several times over the course of the day. It is great way to celebrate Advent and the kids learn and look forward to reading their very special stories year after year.
We buy new ornaments each year for everyone in the family. It’s so fun to decorate the tree and look at our ornaments from past years!
One of my Fav family traditions was started when I was prego with my son.. Me and hubby and now kids Stay home on Christmas watch movies and eat dinner. Then after we eat and clean up we go driving around looking at Christmas lights. I’ve always loved looking at the lights and so its a peice of me being passed down to my kids and hopefully they will pass it down too.
Our family tradition started the year my husband and I got married. I would purchase capitol ornaments from the State Capitol Preservation Board, every year a new ornament comes out so I have from 1998 to present. They are just beautiful.
A fun tradition I have in my family is the “gag gift” that we gave our dad many years ago, and the next year, he in turn gave it to my brother and now each year someone gets the “gag” gift. Now that my Dad has passed away, it is a loving reminder of him ath each holiday.
Our family tradition is to add a Nutcracker to the collection. We’ve been collecting nutcrackers for 30 years.
I am one of those moms that “saves” everything and my girls and I LOVE to craft! So, every year since my oldest daughter was only 2 (she’s almost 19 now) we have created our own Christmas ornaments. We have crafted something different each year and it’s so much fun to pull them out every Christmas and remember making them together! With the addition of my second daughter, who is now 11, and the continuation of our mother-daughter tradition we have quite a collection to decorate our tree! Combined with our home-made collection, we also have ornaments that the girls have made in school through the years and even two that I made in elementary school over 30 years ago!
Our family tradition is collecting angels and bear ornaments with the present year on them. We also rotate eating dinner at each other’s house and opening the gifts.
Our family tradition is to help a fellow family in the neighborhood and or community. This year we are helping a single mom with a teen age boy (16) who skateboards with my son. The mom almost died 3 times this year and she has dialysis daily. we have so far gotten her a christmas tree to put up and almost finished with the food basket. It is such a joy to watch the faces of people you help every year. I pray presents come threw to give her as well.
Every Christmas Eve our family gathers at my mothers for dinner; cookie party and present exchange. Afterwards we all gather around the chair in which one of the grandchildren sit and read “The night before christmas”. My mom also has each of the grandchildren sign this book. My eldest son is 18 now and this will be our 16th year doing it.
My favorite holiday tradiation is making CHristmas tamales with my family. We start early in the morning and they are done by mid afternoon!
Carolyn, I love your Christmas Tamales! That is neat. We really don’t have any tradition except everyone is together on Christmas Eve. Dad is a truck driver, so we never have Christmas until he is home.
