When my first baby (Jojo) was 7 weeks old, I returned to my job which required me to move back to Laos, Southeast Asia.

The first week back, I was showing some visitors around an indoor/outdoor market and my baby was really really fussy. I took all of his clothes off, hoping he was hot and it would help. He continued to cry, so finally out of desperation I decided to kneel in an alley to nurse him.

A CD seller in the market saw me and insisted that I sit in her booth. The “booth” was about 2 feet deep and 7 feet wide…just big enough for a stool behind a counter and a vertical wall of CD’s for sale. I sat on the stool and tried to get my baby to discretely latch on. My baby was overwrought by now and would not latch on.

In an effort to “help” me, the CD booth lady decided she would hold my shirt for me, only she held it WAY UP, about chin level. At that same moment I was aware of a small crowd of southeast Asians gathering to see what an American breast looked like. They DEFINITELY got to see EVERYTHING.

My baby never did latch so finally the CD lady took him from me and he instantly fell asleep in her arms. It was pretty embarrassing at the time but now it is one of my favorite stories. I went on to nurse my son for 26 months, but we never went back to the market!

My most embarrasing moment would have to be, standing in the checkout line at walmart. My youngest son, John was only two years old. I had a loose blouse on and my son went to grab me, he pulled the front of my blouse and let my boobs display for all to see. I was mortified. Everyone was staring and my son was laughing. I think my oldest son Matthew was just as embarrassed as I was.

A few years ago I was flying from Chicago to Beijing, China and decided to use the lavatory. It's around a 13-14 hour flight. I guess I didn't lock the door all the way and when the plane hit some bad turbulence, the bathroom door flew open and tons of people on the JAMMED PACKED 747 saw me basically... "indisposed". That happened shortly after takeoff so I had to put up with everyone's funny looks for at least 12 hours. Thank goodness I took my Mother's advice she gave me as a child: "Make sure you wear clean underwear before you leave the house." Thanks, Mom.

While in High School we marched in a 3-5 mile parade in Corpus Christi, Buchaneers Parade, anyway I had packed my Ben Gay because that would help my aches and pains, did not want to wake up the other girls, so I searched in the dark for my Ben Gay, I started rubbing something on my legs, it felt sticky and mintee. Anyway it was my toothpaste not my Ben Gay.
